Hibiscus Sangria [Keto, Sugar-free]
Beautiful Hibiscus Sangria
[ Keto & Sugar-free ]
Hibiscus flower (called “Jamaica” in Spanish - pronounced ‘Ha-MAH-ee-kah’), is traditionally used to make a Mexican beverage called ‘Agua Fresca’ - a refreshing and sweet drink served across Latin America. It’s something I truly love, but it’s also packed with sugar. So this recipe is a play on that traditional latin drink, but with a Keto touch! And while Sangria is from Spain, this mash-up of Mexican and Spanish flavors makes the most refreshing cocktail! Enjoy this drink on a summer day and you won’t regret it. SALUD!
Yield: about 1.5 liters of Sangria (About 5 to 6 glasses)
INGREDIENTS:
12 tea bags - Hibiscus Tea (found in the coffee/tea aisle of nearly all grocery stores)
1 liter - Water
1/4 cup - Allulose (or your favorite sweetener)
1/4 cup (or more!) - Tequila or Gin
2 cups - Dry White Wine
1 - Naval Orange, sliced into rings
6 to 7 - Strawberries, sliced
1/4 cup - Blackberries
1/4 cup - Blueberries (Or any other fruit you like!)
Optional: 4 springs - Rosemary (or mint) for garnish
DIRECTIONS:
In a pot, warm up the water to just short of a boil. Add the tea bags, and steep for 10-15 minutes. Remove the tea bags, and transfer the tea to a large bowl or pitcher. Add a few ice cubes to help it cool down faster.
Once cool, add the wine, liquor, and sweetener, and stir. Then add the fruit. Place in the fridge and let cool for at least 30 minutes.
Serve in the pitcher, or pour into pretty glasses and garnish with the fresh rosemary or mint sprigs.
